Your information, explained

Privacy policy.

PourTally is the new name for BarTally. The name change does not change how your data is handled. Your drink journal and saved places are stored on your device. Advertising, purchases, Google AI services, and website hosting involve other services. Here is what each part uses, and the choices you have.

01. Your app data

PourTally keeps logged drinks, times, counts, serving sizes, nutrition values, optional prices and currencies, notes, custom drinks, favorites with named prices and a saved default, and optional place names in a private database on your device. You create and reuse your own named places. Older or imported records may also contain legacy location fields, which remain part of those records.

Preferences, including your choice of US fluid ounces or milliliters, alcohol units (grams, milliliters of pure alcohol, or US standard drinks), and widget periods and week starts, are stored locally. Catalog search, spending totals, and habit calculations run on your device; none requires a PourTally account.

Recorded timestamps are stored as UTC instants. History displays them in your current device time zone, which also determines the local dates used for calendar totals. Records may retain the time zone used when they were created as additional metadata.

Prices are amounts you enter for drinks. PourTally does not connect to financial accounts, import bank transactions, or collect payment-card details for spending tracking. A missing price is kept separate from a recorded zero price.

Favorites can save a serving, a place, and multiple named prices. Each log keeps the selected details. Editing a favorite or updating the separate built-in catalog does not rewrite previous entries.

02. What the developer receives

PourTally has no account registration or developer analytics backend. The app does not send your drink entries, notes, or named places to the developer or attach them to advertising requests. Recorded drink prices and currencies are also kept out of developer analytics and advertising requests. Google services can receive information as described in the sections below.

If you email support or contact the developer through Google Play’s App support details, the developer receives your email address and the information you choose to include, including attachments. You do not need to send your drink history or a backup file to report a bug.

Public Google Play reviews can be read by the developer and other users, along with the public profile information Google displays. Keep drink history, locations, purchase details, and other private information out of public reviews.

03. Optional local AI

PourTally offers optional AI explanations in Metrics. Calculated findings continue to work without AI. On supported phones, you can request an explanation using Google's shared Gemini Nano model through ML Kit. PourTally gives the local model a bounded summary of calculated facts and data coverage, excluding raw drink names, notes, place names, coordinates, and entry identifiers. The prompt and generated text are processed on your device and are not sent to Google servers or the developer. There is no cloud AI fallback or AI service charge.

Metrics may check model availability when opened. PourTally can use Android's shared model when it is already ready. On supported phones where a model is available to download, you can choose to enable AI and confirm the download. Google AICore downloads and manages the model; PourTally does not start a model download automatically. Downloads require internet access, may be large, and use device storage. Wi-Fi is recommended; mobile data charges may apply. Downloading a model does not send your drink history to Google or start an explanation. Inference starts only when you request an explanation.

Calculated findings remain available without AI or a download. Unsupported phones do not show AI controls. Android independently manages its shared model and updates; availability depends on your phone and Google's AI services.

ML Kit and Android AI services may contact Google for models, updates, and compatibility configuration. Google's SDK collects service usage and diagnostic information, including device and app details, identifiers, configured languages, API events and errors, processing latency, and input/output sizes. This telemetry does not include your prompt or generated text. See ML Kit terms and privacy, ML Kit Android data disclosure, and Google's Privacy Policy.

PourTally holds only the current explanation in app memory. It is not saved to the database or exported JSON backups. Changes to history, the selected period, or relevant calendar settings clear it. Leaving the active Metrics screen cancels an explanation in progress. AI text can be wrong; calculated facts and supporting entries remain available for checking. Explanations describe recorded data and are not medical advice or an assessment of drinking safety.

04. Optional places

Add a place name when saving a favorite or logging a drink, then reuse it with other drinks. Place names are stored locally and work offline. PourTally does not request location permission, access GPS, or use Google Maps or Google Places. It does not send your named places to a map or venue-search service.

Save a place with a favorite for future app and widget logs, or choose or clear a place for an individual app entry. Filter Home by a saved place to find your favorites there. Each drink keeps the place recorded with it; later changes to favorites do not change past entries.

To remove a place from history, edit its drink entry. To stop a favorite reusing a place, clear it in Edit favorite. Forgetting a saved place removes its shortcut but keeps places attached to favorites and historical entries. Older or imported records may retain legacy location details.

05. Ads and your choices

Google AdMob supplies in-app banner ads. Its SDK may collect and share IP addresses, device or advertising identifiers, interactions, and diagnostic information for advertising, measurement, and fraud prevention. An IP address can indicate approximate location. PourTally requests non-personalized ads; these still involve data processing. Read Google’s Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from apps.

Where required, Google’s consent form presents choices before ads are requested. Required privacy options remain available under More options → Ad privacy choices. The SDK may use a previously valid consent state if refreshing it fails. You can keep logging when ads or consent services are unavailable.

An optional one-time purchase removes banner ads. All app features remain available without purchasing. PourTally checks locally stored purchase ownership before requesting ads. While verified ownership is active, it does not request ads or automatically display ad consent prompts. It may refresh Google’s privacy-choice status so previously required choices remain available when you select them.

06. Ad-removal purchases

Google Play processes payment using your Play account and payment settings. PourTally does not receive or store your card details. It asks Google Play for purchase ownership and stores a signed purchase receipt in private device storage excluded from backup. This lets previously verified ad removal work offline. A later ownership check can update that status, including after a refund.

After reinstalling or changing devices, use the same Play account and choose More options → Remove ads → Restore purchase. Google’s payment records are governed by its policies and are not deleted when you clear PourTally’s storage.

07. Home-screen widgets

Widgets are optional and free. Quick-log widgets display the selected favorite and can show its serving, saved default price, and saved place. Counter widgets show drinks or alcohol in grams, milliliters of pure alcohol, or US standard drinks for a chosen calendar or rolling period, with Sunday or Monday as the start of a calendar week. Quick-log widgets show a brief saved count directly on the widget and, when space allows, a rolling 24-hour alcohol total. Anyone who can view your home screen can see this information. Widget configuration and pending action state stay in private app storage and are excluded from app backup.

Tapping +1 records the selected favorite at the current time with its saved serving, default price, and place. Logging from a widget does not open the full app. Temporary serving and price choices on Home do not change widget defaults. You can edit the recorded details later in History.

08. Backup and transfer

Under More options → Backup & restore, you can export a JSON file containing drink history snapshots, custom drinks, favorites with their named prices and saved defaults, and saved places. The file can include times, counts, serving sizes, nutrition, prices and currencies, notes, and legacy location fields. The built-in catalog, app preferences, widget state, and ad-removal receipt are excluded from this file.

You choose the destination through Android’s file picker. Backup files contain readable personal data and are not encrypted by PourTally. If you choose a cloud-storage provider, that provider handles the file under its own settings and policies. PourTally does not automatically upload or sync backups, and the developer does not receive them unless you choose to send a copy.

Restoring starts with a preview and requires your confirmation. Missing records are added; current records are kept when their IDs match. The exception is an untouched built-in starter favorite, which can be restored from the backup. Favorites you have edited remain protected. Restoring the same file again does not duplicate matching records. A backup can restore records you previously deleted from the app. Delete exported copies separately from the location you chose when they are no longer needed.

Android may back up or transfer PourTally’s database according to your device, operating system, and account settings. This can include drink history, recorded prices and currencies, custom drinks, favorites with named prices and saved places, and legacy location fields. The replaceable built-in catalog is excluded. The operating system and its backup provider handle these copies; the PourTally developer does not receive them.

Manage backup preferences and retained backups through Android and your backup provider. App preferences, widget state, and the local ad-removal receipt are excluded from PourTally’s configured backup.

09. Keeping and deleting data

Local data remains until you delete it, clear app storage, or uninstall PourTally. Delete individual drink entries from History. To erase all local PourTally data, open PourTally’s app information in Android Settings and clear its storage.

Exported JSON files and system backups remain separately and may restore data on a later installation. Delete exported files from their saved location. Manage or delete those copies through Android or your backup provider. Clearing app storage does not erase records held separately by Google for ads, AI service diagnostics, or payments.

10. This website

This is a static website hosted on GitHub Pages. We do not add analytics scripts, advertising, sign-up forms, or account features to it. Images and fonts are served with the site. The website does not access your PourTally drink journal or request your location.

GitHub receives requests needed to deliver these pages. GitHub’s Pages documentation states that visitors’ IP addresses are logged and stored for security purposes, including when visitors are not signed in. Hosting data is handled under the GitHub Privacy Statement.

App downloads and reviews take place on Google Play and are handled under Google’s privacy policies. This website does not collect your Google account information.

11. Audience and estimates

PourTally is intended for adults tracking their own drinks. Nutrition and alcohol figures may be estimates; they are not measurements of the drink served to you.

12. Updates and contact

This policy will be updated if the app’s or website’s data practices change. The date above shows the most recent update.
